So, if you guys follow me on stories, then you know that one of the most stressful parts of wedding planning for me was putting together my wedding registry!

“What if I register for too much and seem greedy? What if I don’t register for enough? Is this china going to be dated 30 years from now? Do I really need a stand mixer? Will I have SPACE for a stand mixer? SPACE! I need space! Maybe I should register for some shelves… Is that weird?”

Literally, this was my thought process while registering. I know it should be a fun thing, but I found it SO stressful because I wasn’t sure what I would wish I had registered for but hadn’t, or what I would register for and then never use.

I took to Instagram stories to ask you guys what your favorite things from your registries were and it was super helpful (seriously, could not have done it without you guys! Thank you to anyone who responded! It helped a TON!) but Erie Insurance took it one step further, and put out a National Wedding Registry Survey that not only revealed common items that people didn’t register for but wish they had, but also of these common items, which of them people who DID register for and receive were still using months later! If you haven’t registered yet (or if you have but still have time to add things to your registry) this list is SUPER helpful! I definitely added a thing or two (looking at you, air fryer) after seeing the list!

If you’re like me, you’ve probably thought (read: overthought) through every single item on your registry, BUT, if you’re like me, there’s probably one thing you haven’t thought about yet: will you add registry items to your homeowners insurance? Literally when I heard that mentioned, I was shocked. Adding registry items to my insurance policy was something that I had never even thought about. But why wouldn’t you? You insure your ring, you insure your car, you insure your home. Why, if you receive something of value for your wedding would you not insure it? If you think about it, it’s just the smart thing to do. That way you can use those crystal wine glasses every holiday without worrying that Aunt Mary will have a few too many and break another one. Or you can run your new robotic vacuum without fear! Basically, insuring the more expensive items on your registry will give you the peace of mind you need to actually use them, instead of letting them just sit in a closet collecting dust out of fear of ruining them.

Also, while we’re on the topic of insurance, have you insured your ring yet? If not, it’s definitely something that you should look into, if only for the peace of mind of knowing that if somehow something ever happens, you’ll be covered! You never plan on losing your ring— I rarely even take mine off, but, I’ve seen absolute horror stories in a few of the Facebook groups I’m in. Rings getting stolen out of your hotel room on your honeymoon, rings getting lost down the drain when you take them off to do dishes, you never expect things to happen, but sometimes they do, unfortunately. And when you’re insured, it’s a weight taken off of your shoulders to know that your ring is covered if the worst does happen.

Basically, whether we’re talking about your ring, items off of your registry, or even your entire home, making sure you’re coved by insurance just in case is just the smart thing to do! If you want to learn more about the results of Erie Insurance’s National Wedding Registry Survey and what items from your registry that you should and should not add to your insurance, check out this video!

What was your number one favorite thing that you registered for? What did you register for that now just sits collecting dust? I’m still putting the final touches on our registry, so I’d love to hear any and all tips, but one thing is for sure: I’m definitely making sure that we’re covered by insurance in case the worst happens!

XOXO,

Olivia
