NYC Travel Guide: Padcakes and DUMBO
Long time no talk (I swear someday I'm going to be better about posting 3 times a week like I plan on doing so I don't have to start like every other post like that! Haha). So far we've spent two days in NYC, and I have decided to break the posts up by day so that you're not flooded with like 20 pictures at once! I'm going out of order and starting with day 2, just because that's what's most fresh in my mind.
So we actually weren't planning on going into NYC at all yesterday (we're staying with Jerry's family in New Jersey) but then we saw this video while I was scrolling through Facebook and decided that we needed to try a pad thai pancake ASAP! So basically we planned our whole day yesterday around a spur of the moment craving for pad thai pancakes.
Basically, a Pad Thai Pancake (or Padcake, as they call it on the menu) is pad thai stuffed inside dough and then fried. And yes, it is as good as it sounds. You can get them at Pig and Khao on the lower east side, but make sure to get there right when they open at 5pm. We didn't know this, but they make them in batches and once they're gone, they're gone. We got there at around 5:30 and they only had one left! Had we been 5 minutes later it would have made for a super disappointing day trip!
After Pig and Khao, our next goal was to find more food! We originally were going to each get a padcake, but since there was only one left, we split it and decided to get more food somewhere else so that we could see more of the city!

We ended up in DUMBO, because I had been seeing this cute little picture spot ALL over Instagram and really wanted to shoot there! It turned out to be a lot harder to get the perfect shot than I thought it would be, especially with a 50mm lens which is what I use. That and there were constantly cars going back and fourth so we kept having to run out of the way! If you're visiting New York, I would honestly say either skip this spot, or snap a quick picture and head down to the water front about 100 feet away for the most amazing view of the city!

Had to snap a quick close up of my bag because I'm pretty much obsessed with it! It may be the most impractical bag ever, but its so much fun for summer! AND it's on a super good sale! I'll have a full post about the sale up on the blog next week, but until then just an FYI if you live in Nashville, Opry Mills is having a huge mall wide purse sale, and all of their Kate Spade bags are an additional 20% off (they're 60% off to begin with because it's an outlet store, so basically they're SUPER affordable right now!)

Like I said, the spot under the Manhattan bridge is pretty, but I think this view puts it to shame! I would have stayed here all day if I could have! It was definitely one of the highlights of my day! It also seems to be a super popular photo spot. We saw everything from wedding pictures to karate pictures going on while we were there! 😂
At this point, we still haven't gotten food, so we ubered to Mission Dolores, a fun bar that allows dogs! Since we had Euler, that was kind of a priority for us! They had a super cute patio and lots of fun drinks! They had Frose, Margaritas, and even a drink called The Male Romper, which was house lager and fireball. Since we were trying to keep costs down, we opted to split a pitcher of beer! If you're trying to have a drink or two inexpensively, a pitcher is the way to go! Even if you don't finish it, when you think about it drinks are usually $6-12, and a pitcher of beer which is around 4 or 5 drinks is around $18-30, so it's a great option if you're on a budget!
Mission Dolores doesn't serve food, but they do have menus for all of the local restaurants and you're welcome to run across the street and get food from somewhere else to bring over, or even order something on Postmates! We ended up postmating enchiladas from Oaxaca Taqueria (which we later learned was right across the street... whoops!).
Stay tuned for my NYC Day 1 post first thing Monday morning!
XOXO,
Olivia
