So, Wednesday if you were following along on my Instagram Stories, you saw that I took a super quick day trip to Atlanta! While it was fun to get away for a day, there are a couple of things that I would have done differently, so I wanted to write about ways to make sure your day trip runs as smoothly as possible!
1. Plan ahead. Our biggest problem that we ran into was lack of planning. We didn't really have a game plan, we just kind of expected to know what to do when we got there. Our original plan was to look up places to go and things to do and see on the drive down, but we got distracted and didn't end up looking until about an hour before we got there. We ended up driving aimlessly for a while while we searched. In order to make the most of the short amount of time you have, make sure you know exactly what you want to do. Search Pinterest, look at Instagram hashtags for that city, read Yelp reviews, and have a game plan! You'll be able to see so much more in a shorter amount of time.
2. Double check. When searching for restaurants, naturally your first thought is usually to hit Pinterest for places to eat in that city. Or, at least mine was. I found a restaurant that was listed as one of the "top 10 prettiest brunch spots in the U.S." and went with it, because again, we failed to plan ahead. If you do find a restaurant on Pinterest, do a little bit more research. That pin is only one person's review. Find the restaurant on Instagram and look through their photos, as well as photos that they've been tagged in. You'll get a better idea of what to expect!
3. Make sure your travel outfit is both comfy and cute! Yes, you've got a road trip ahead of you so you want to be dressed as comfortably as possible. But since you've got minimal time, you don't want to have to change in order to look presentable once you get there! The best route is a cute flowy dress! It feels like you're wearing pj's, and it makes you look like you tried way harder than you did!
4. Don't be afraid to stray from your plan. While you definitely want to have a plan in mind, you do want to be open to other options, too! If you drive past a cute shop or cool landmark that's wasn't originally on your radar, stop and check it out! Some of the best things about road trips are the unexpected little stops along the way!
If you have any other day trip or road trip tips that you swear by, I'd love to hear about them in the comments!
XOXO,
Olivia
