Hair Envy, Much?
For as long as I can remember, I've always gotten crazy hair envy. More than anything else, I'd see someone and be like "Oh. My. Gosh. How on EARTH do you get your hair to do that?".
My hair is super fine, flat and straight, so anytime I see someone with thick, curly hair I have to go out of my way to remind myself that they never asked for that level of perfection, and that it's not right to hate someone just because their hair is better than yours.
Any time I've brought this up to anybody with that hair type I'm told how "lucky I am to have straight hair" and that "it must be nice not to have to get your hair thinned every time you go for a hair cut."
As I've gotten older (lazier), I have begun to appreciate my natural, stick straight hair more and more because I understand that not everyone can get out of the shower, brush their hair and run out the door without their hair blowing up like a balloon. BUT I've still always longed for thicker, more voluminous hair.
Because of this, I have spent probably more time than I should considering hair extensions. My hair actually grows pretty long on its own which I do appreciate, but it would be nice to be able to add a bit of thickness to it. I'd always trashed that idea pretty quickly though because most extensions are crazy expensive, and I didn't want to deal with the upkeep.
Recently I have started wearing
clip in extensions, and honestly, I'm hooked (pun only slightly intended). since my hair is already pretty long, I use them mostly for volume and thickness because my naturally fine hair can get slightly stringy looking towards the ends if I'm not careful, but it has made such a huge difference! For comparison, the picture on the right is my hair without the extensions, and the one on my left is my hair in the same style with the extensions.
I've worn them out in public a few times now and have gotten multiple compliments on my hair every time. People are always pretty surprised when I tell them that it's not actually my hair.
I will say that because I got the
24 Inch Silky Touch Extensions (c/o)
they get very thin towards the end and would not blend well when worn down with shorter hair. I tested them on my roommate, who's hair is slightly longer than shoulder length and probably a bit thicker than mine and it was super obvious where her hair ended and the extensions began when her hair was down. But when we put her hair in a side braid it looked AMAZING!
If you are looking at extensions for length I would recommend going for a shorter extension so that the 200g weight blends better with your hair and it looks more natural. Even with my hair, which is probably only about 2 inches shorter than the extensions themselves, you can kind of tell where my hair ends and the extensions keep going. I actually plan on going somewhere and having them cut the extensions to match the length of my hair because I absolutely love the thickness and volume they give me and want to wear them more often without being self conscious that people can tell that I'm wearing them.
I know a few of you have asked about my extensions on Snapchat (OliviaWhalen11 if you don't already follow me) and Instagram (@OliviaSheaStyle), so I really hope this review was helpful and informative! If you have any more questions I'd be more than happy to answer them! Feel free to leave me a comment, message me on IG, or shoot me an email at
